Technical overview

Unimide solid polyamide resins are designed as binders for solvent-based flexographic and gravure inks. Selected Unimide polyamides for printing inks provide documented gel resistance: US 7910 offers excellent gel resistance and thaw property, while 7399 offers excellent wet-pack and gel resistance. The range includes co-solvent, alcohol-soluble and untreated-polyolefin grades with different solubility, softening point and viscosity profiles. Final selection should be tested with the actual solvent blend, film, surface treatment and press conditions.

Selection considerations

  • Solvent routesThe range includes co-solvent and alcohol-soluble grades for different ink vehicles.
  • Print processesUnimide grades serve solvent-based flexographic and gravure printing inks.
  • Grade characteristicsSolubility, softening point, viscosity and amine or acid value distinguish the grades.

Polyamide ink resins technical information

What is polyamide resin used for in printing inks?

Solid polyamide resin is used as a binder in solvent-based flexographic and gravure printing inks. The binder must dissolve in the intended solvent blend and remain compatible with the pigment, plasticiser and other resins. Printability, resolubility, adhesion, blocking and finished-film properties should be evaluated in the complete ink on the actual production substrate.

What is the difference between co-solvent and alcohol-soluble polyamide resin?

The main distinction is the solvent route. Co-solvent Unimide grades are designed for vehicles based on toluene and butanol, with some grades also compatible with IPA. Alcohol-soluble grades are evaluated in ethanol or IPA-containing systems. The selected grade must be checked at the intended resin concentration because the full solvent balance affects dissolution, viscosity and ink stability.

Which Unimide grades have documented gel resistance?

The confirmed grade-specific information identifies Unimide US 7910 with excellent gel resistance and thaw property, while grade 7399 has excellent wet-pack and gel resistance. These statements apply to the named grades and should not be extended to the complete Unimide range. Current product documents and an ink-system trial should be reviewed before selection.

Which polyamide resin is used for untreated HDPE or LDPE ink trials?

Unimide US 77 is intended for flexographic and gravure ink trials on untreated HDPE and LDPE. Actual adhesion depends on the film grade, additives, surface condition, solvent balance, pigment package, drying and press conditions. Testing should use the production film and a defined adhesion method rather than assuming equivalent performance across all untreated polyolefin substrates.

Are solid printing-ink polyamides the same as liquid epoxy hardeners?

No. The Unimide products on this page are solid polyamide binders for printing inks. Reactive liquid polyamide resins are curing agents for two-component epoxy systems and form a separate range with different specifications and applications. The product form and intended chemical function must be confirmed before a grade is selected.

Can Unimide polyamide resins be supplied outside India?

Uniform Synthetics supplies Unimide ink-resin grades from India to domestic and established international markets. As the manufacturer and supplier of the grades listed here, the company can confirm grade availability, packaging, sample quantities and current product documents for the intended destination and formulation route.

How can a formulator request a polyamide resin sample or TDS?

Provide the print process, substrate and treatment level, solvent blend, primary binder, pigment, print orientation and target ink properties. If untreated film is involved, include the production-film specification and adhesion method. The technical team can then identify relevant Unimide grades and provide a current TDS or sample for a controlled laboratory and press trial.
